Workflow Tutorial: Creating a Monitoring Project
Get someone's attention quickly and send them a message. PING! In this Monitoring project you will learn how to use the Ping component and its caching features.

Objective: To learn how to use the Ping component and its caching features.

Exercise 1
Prepare a project to deploy a Ping component.
Step 1: Create a new Monitoring project.
Step 2: Drag and drop the SendEmail component from the Components palette under the Communication category.
Type 'ping' in the search box. Drag and drop the Ping component.
Step 3: Right click the SendEmail component and select Edit Component.
Set the From Address property as a Constant Value.
Step 4: Set the To Addresses through the List Builder form as Constant Data.
Step 5: Set the Subject property and the Contents property by typing in the text boxes.
Step 6: Set the SMTP Server Name in the Email Settings tab as a Constant Value.
Step 7: Copy and paste two copies of the SendEmail component. Link all the components as shown below:
Step 8: Right click the Ping component and select Edit Component. Select the Setup tab and set the Host For Ping property as a Constant Value.
Step 9: Save and Run the project. Double click Begin. The result is displayed as shown below:
Step 10: Finished!
Exercise 2
How to deploy a Ping component as a Task Tray Application.
Step 1: Create a new Monitoring project. Select the project under the Project Info palette and select the Deployment tab. Set the Deployment Type as TaskTrayApplication. Click the Auto Start box.
Step 2: Click the Add button next to the Run Instructions field and set the Run Instructions as shown below:
Step 3: Select Create Deployment Directory from the Deployment icon.
Step 4: Make a new folder through the Browse For Folder window.
Step 5: Link the Start and End components.
Step 6: Save and Run the project. Double click Begin. The results are as shown below:
Step 7: The deployment files are saved to the specified folder.
Step 8: Finished!
