I had a problem - the Deployment Server not communicating with its clients. That's a major problem... no matter who you are.
The easiest way to resolve this problem was to restart the "Altiris Express Server". Communication between clients and DS was restored.
Attached is a batch file for stopping and restarting the service.

I also discovered that problem on DS 6.8
I also discovered that problem on DS 6.8.
But it wasn’t that simple.
The issue was that clients will not connect back or imaging process will not start.
When I looked at services they were all appeared to be running (IBM Alerts did not report any problems either), so I had to restart them manually one by one. Random DS services were stopping working at random time. To fix this problem we scheduled a regular reboot for the DS boxes.

Restarting the express
Restarting the express service may be an easy fix to the problem, but the underlying problem is still there. We have had our DS 6.8 SP2 servers online for 4 months without a reboot or having to restart the express services. I found this altiris KB article -->
https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=1328&p=... helpful in identifying the root cause of our initial client connectivity issues.
