Changing the fslrdr Location

Changing the fslrdr Location
Randy Cook's picture

If you want to change the location of the fslrdr folder to something besides the c:\ default, you'll need to dig out your registry tools. Randy Cook shows us which wire to cut.

Like all things in the Juice, this is not strictly supported, but appears to work fine.

After installation and before you create/import any packages, modify the setting: HKLM\SYSTEM\Altiris\FSL\DefaultFileRedirect.

Editor's note: Read this article for a cautionary note about moving the fslrdr location.

Some general rules when changing the redirect area...

Evan Thomas's picture

There are a few restrictions that users should take into account when moving the FSLRDR folder. These are documented in this article but I'll also list them here:

  1. The drive must be a local drive, not a network drive.
  2. The drive letter must be capitalized.
  3. There must be no spaces in the path.

Again, this isn't officially supported at this time but it can be done and appears to work just fine if these rules are followed.

What about after using packages?

Is there any way to do this after you've been using SVS with multiple layers for some time? I tried copying the folder to a different partition/drive and then changing the reg key, but although all the layers showed up in the admin tool, activating them accomplished nothing and it was clear that all of the data was missing.

Thanks.

You also need to change the individual FileRedirect values in each layer under HKLM\SYSTEM\Altiris\FSL.
