If you use VMware and Endpoint Security you know that you cannot run the ESS agent in a VM Session. The workaround is to load the agent onto your physical host machine and control it through the VM server.
One big point to remember is to make sure you remove any policies or lock downs before you close or reset your VM. If you don't, the agent will continue to use those policies and may block wireless and USB access to your physical machine.

So to test it you create a
So to test it you create a vm host w/ the Endpoint Security Solution installed and then install the agent locally?
I haven't read/followed much yet, but why can't the agent run against another vm?
Also, what parts do I need to install? Endpoint? SQL and NS?
Testing
You have a VMware session with a full Notification Server, plus the ESS installed.
Simply discover the physical box in your NS and push the agent with ESS.
It can be a bit tricky with domain etc but its really good to demo.

ESS in VMware
Most of ESS's actions involve driver filtering. There are problems in filtering virtualized hardware as seen in VMWare.
For testing or a demo. Install SQL and NS and the server side of ESS in a VM with the ESS agent on your physical OS.
