Using the Firefox Browser on Day-to-Day Altiris Work

If you have Firefox installed on your machine, you're using it every day and you probably would also like to use it to manage your Altiris environment. OK... i will show you quickly how to do it.

Go to: Firefox > Tools > Add-ons – click here 'Get Extensions' hyperlink [right bottom corner].

On the website (it's an official Mozilla website [addons.mozilla.org]) search for: 'IE Tab'. Simply click and install, restart your Firefox and set it up to be visible so you will be able to switch when you want to use either the Firefox engine or the IE engine.

For the IE engine it is good to add straightaway your NS Console's URLs after installing IE Tab so it will always run the IE engine when accessing these resources. Enjoy!

I didn't notice any problems and it significantly sped up my work (as Firefox is is speeding up Web browsing across the world).

Thanks Mozilla

Firefox is a fantastic browser, I forgot how to use IE in these years, Firefox is really stable and compatible with 95% of all websites and services.

Just a comment about this post, nice avatar after the Juice restyling!

Helpdesk Email Templates

This is definitely a great add in to use. I've been using IE Tab in Firefox with Altiris for sometime now and the only problem I've had is previewing email templates in the helpdesk solution.

If you use "Preview with Context" it will crash firefox (at least it does consistently on my machine).

Firefox normally should be

Firefox normally should be compatible with Altiris, but for my experience there are some features that requires IE.

A well known program that requires only IE is ie. WSUS, but OK is a Microsoft program and it wants only MS products.

This solution...

The solution which i provided here is resolving this problem because is using IE in Firefox Tab - which resolves problem with compatibility. Its not fully Firefox - but you dont have to use IE.

Did you check it over some other tools?

Did u try running the application on other platforms & web browsers. These days there are a number of testing tools available on web which allow you to test your web/flash application on multiple platforms before publishing it live on web,so that you can successfully rectify any browser problems that may creep into your stuff unexpectedly.

Not just you, happens to me

Not just you, happens to me as well, haven't tried it yet with the new firefox3 beta with updated IE Tab. But I have tried using IE tab in general to view the worker console and the ns console, both of which lead to a crash.

Guess that's why they call it a beta ;)

Hey it really works

Someone pointed me to this post and I decided to try it. It really did work and work well.

I have several users who prefer to use Firefox but they were forced to use IE for the HelpDesk solution because it looked so terrible in there. This was especially true of the comment field being only as big as a postage stamp.

When I installed this add-on and inserted the URL, it was as though I was in IE and the response time was faster.

Not available for MacOSX?!?

Just found this thread and wanted to download, but was stopped by the note: "IE Tab is not available for MacOSX."

Isn't everyone on some version of OSX by now? :-)
