This tool is not only helpful for scanning/finding all IP addresses/hostnames on a LAN, but it is also useful for finding MAC addresses when creating predefined Computers within the Altiris DS Console.

I use this tool in my WAN/LAN corporate env., really useful to discover IP clients and produce reports.

Just an addition about IP scanner, there is a nice tool in the ManageEngine OpUtils 4 Suite, in the Freeware edition there are 15 tools including IP ping, SNMP ping, Proxy ping, Trace Route, DNS Resolver, Subnet List, DHCP Scope Monitor, System Information and others.

A strange thing about IPscanner, now is detected by Symantec Antivirus as a hacking tool and moved on the quarantine.
