Ghost Solution Suite

I ran across this issue when a customer called in about it. The alterations that Altiris does to the MBR interfere with using the Ghost client on that machine afterwards.

You may want to use a unique Windows product key for each machine when deploying syspreped images using GSS. Following scripts demonstrate the process of updating the product key in sysprep file before booting to Windows.

GSS 2.5 has a different mechanism to create/handle virtual partition. Previous to GSS 2.5, virtual partition is added to existing partition table as an overlapping partition. So if there is no free slot in partition table (i.e. 4 primary partitions are already used), GSS can't create a virtual partition.

With GSS 2.5, GSS is replacing the mbr rather than editing the existing mbr. When virtual partition is created, GSS saves existing mbr to osmbr.bak file and replace the mbr with virtual partition mbr.

Since I wrote how to enable AClient remote control in WinPE 1.6, I have had a lot of people ask me if it is possible to remote control in WinPE 2.1. I have just figured out that it is possible! While it is not as easy as enabling AClient remote control, it is not too difficult and it is worth the effort to be able to right-click any computer that is running a job in automation so that you can view the progress and troubleshoot any problems that may arise. If you notice that a computer has been stuck in automation for a long time, you can simply remote control the computer to fix the problem.

This is a US-english build of a patch for the Ghost Solution Suite console server 2.0.2 LiveUpdate from the initial release build 1573 to build 1598.

This patch is an optional hotfix intended primarily to resolve memory leaks which can over time reduce the performance of the GSS console and may lead to the Configuration Server service (ngserver.exe) stopping with the exception code 80000003.
