Connector CMDB Rules – Network Printers

We decided to use Network Discovery for our Network Printers. This was our first time meddling with this and I found some very interesting things I could do with Connector and CMDB rules.

Monitors now often return their serial number in a HW inventory (aexmachinv.exe). If you are using CMDB Solution and are tracking monitors as a resource you can use Connector Solution to create the association between a computer and its monitor(s).

Want to Know What Assets Are Under Warranty?

Want to Know What Assets Are Under Warranty?

I recently received request for a report that would show which of our computers are covered by a warranty. I looked around and didn't see a report off hand (that was not tied to the expiration of the warranty) but I did see a lot of similar reports for expiring leases.

Hopefully my solution to this reporting problem will come in handy for someone else.

Linking Multiple Assets to an Incident

Linking Multiple Assets to an Incident

The current version of Help Desk (as of this writing) allows you to select a single asset, and set it as the 'managed object' for that incident. This comes in handy for reporting and automation rules, not to mention the ability to quickly navigate to the resource manager, or carbon copy to a device via the icons next to the selected asset. In my workplace however, our day to day workflow requires that for a given incident, multiple assets need to be associated.

To that end, I created a mechanism that allows the linking of multiple assets to an incident with a bare minimum of customization to the help desk product.

Using a Command Line to Create an Incident

Using a Command Line to Create an Incident

This is a command line that allow you to create a Helpdesk (HD) incident from a remote location. It uses the Web service that's packaged with the Helpdesk to do the heavy lifting. What's cool about this solution is you can submit an incident without even launching the Helpdesk console on your computer.

There's a new CMDB in town. This version is chock full of new features like a detailed change history that tells when and who did what to your configuration items. Not to mention any names but we can think of a few times when that would have been a reeeeally nice report to have.
