Auditing

Security is only as tight as the weakest link in your environment. More often than not it's internally where the security holes are created, either inadvertently from carelessness or intentionally from a disgruntled or disillusioned employee. The hardware and software security can be top of the line, but if the human factor doesn't adhere to policy, it may not make any difference. This part follows the IT team for Mighty Modern Marketing as they try to track down a security hole where productivity is taken down through the very tools used to defend and manage the network.

I just learned that you can enable MSI logging so that if your installer fails with an error you can see where the MSI failed.

Working in the Banking and Finance industry we get constant audits of our server fleet. To help assess the security config, we wrote a custom inventory job designed to capture local security policies.

Hopefully it'll take some of the pain out of examining your company's policies.

There has been a consistent issue with duplication of data across the Altiris infrastructure which can cause a number of issues in relation to data resolution within Altiris especially when reporting against this data.

You can download the Audit Integration in the Solution center in the NS. This solution will also install Task Server for you (which is free) and will give you pre-canned tasks for auditing. Very cool.
