Server Management
What Security Risks are Associated with Using PXE and How Can I Reduce Them?
IT managers who leverage Deployment Solution's PXE capabilities recognize that it saves time and money allowing technicians to deploy, update and diagnose problems on hardware without having to leave their management console. There are some concerns IT managers have in using PXE however, and this article will help address some of those concerns by listing steps that can be taken to help drastically reduce the likelihood of a malicious user successfully conducting an attack by PXE.
HP SmartStart Scripting Toolkit for HP Servers
Here's the scenario: you have an HP server and you need to rebuild it. To do this you need to pxe boot it, but its off site and you have no remote view when the OS is not up :-( Well I had to do this and not just 1 server... double :-( Luckily I came across a tool in the HP SmartStart Scripting Toolkit, called setbootorder.exe.

Performance Tuning Notification Server
We recently upgraded our NS infrastructure and as part of the process we scripted most of the install. Here are a few snippets of what we did.
One of the goals of our Altiris Upgrade project was to automate as much of the Altiris installation process as possible. An important part of this initiative were some scripts we wrote to do some basic performance tuning of our NS infrastructure. Each of our Notification Servers could be managing up to 10,000 devices and the out-of-the-box settings for Notification Server cause a large number of deadlocks in the Altiris Database.
