Application installation can become tricky at times. We have noticed problems with installing software and our Spy Sweeper blocking the installation. We then had a need to determine if the Spy Sweeper is installed and do some action if it is.

Recently, it was discovered that a client machine had a Task History entry for Hardware Inventory, AEXMACHINV.exe of 'Task Stopped'? In fact, AEXMACHINV.exe stays active and in place, showing up in the computers task manager until a time-out occurs. Of course, there was no hardware inventory on the server either. What happened?

Ensure inventory summary reporting is disabled to prevent managed computers generating unnecessary events by repeatedly sending the same information to the Notification Server. This field is disabled by default.

The Notification Server database can seem like a daunting place, where you wonder how you will ever find what you are looking for. I've gathered together some scripts and other information that will be useful in diving deeper into the database.

You can run these SQL scripts in Query Analyzer and save the results to file for review later on. Also be sure to select the Altiris database (or whatever database you want to look at) in Query Analyzer, otherwise you will likely get errors. You can modify the where clause of the scripts, to filter (table_catalog, table_schema, ...) and narrow your results.
