Virtualizing Apps, Let's Talk About Capture
I work a lot with capture and SVS so I'm extremely curious as to what Juice users think would make capturing/packaging on SVS a more worry-free, easier process. If you have a minute, please post a comment and let me know what frustrates you with SVS capture, what features you'd like to see as part of a capture utility, and/or what you think would be a good approach to making it something less intimidating for new users.

What's the difference between Activate and "Start layer automatically"?
Q:
Lincoln asked, "we have OnPostActivate events in our layers, but they never run unless you manually de-activate and then re-activate the layers. All of our layers are set to start automatically. Shouldn't the OnPostActivate events run when SVS starts the layer during windows boot-up?"

Configuring SVS to Ensure .xls Files Open in Excel 2003 Instead of Office 2007
Q:
Anil asked, "I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. Here is my issue, we have Office 2003 installed on our base image. We have created a layer for Excel 2007. Everything works fine, except that we needed a way to make sure all .xls files open in Excel 2003 instead of Excel 2007. I was wondering if we could talk to an expert from your side to possibly solve this problem? We have attempted a few things but have not succeeded in accomplishing this task."

Why do I see two copies of each virtualized app in my (non-Altiris) inventory report?
Q:
Ray said, "we had some technical questions about Symantec’s Altiris Virtualization functionality. Some of our customers are doing internal inventories of their Adobe software but are finding that some installations may be unnecessarily double-counted. The customers think that their use of Altiris Virtualization may have an effect on this."
SVS within Citrix or Terminal Services
Q:
QuietLeni asked, "I have been asked, by several clients, if they can use SVS on their Citrix Servers or Terminal Services servers to include various packages where they have problems with applications not co-existing properly. I have been quite cagey about this and suggested that if they want to try, I'm not stopping them, but I want to know the truth."

Can I prevent layers from being exported?
Q:
I would like to create layers for licensed programs. I would also like to give the end user access to the Admin Console, so they can create their own layers if they would like. But, I don't want them to be able to export some of the layers that I created (because of licensing issues). Is there some way to prevent layers from being exported?
Is SVS seeing files that you cannot?
Q:
Roie asked, "In my teaching I run a lot of programs from the Windows command line. (Hmmm, wonder how I will do that in Vista?) I have set up a data layer with folders for all my class labs, and an app layer for each development tool -- Dev-C++ for example.
