I recently has this error when I logged onto the NS box and opened the NS console. To my surprise I wasn't greeted with the normal NS console, but instead I was faced with this:

A Brief Note on Installer GUIDs

The Installer uses GUIDs to uniquely identify applications, packages, features, etc. The ProductID is the GUID used by the Installer to distinguish one application from another.

It doesn’t matter if the package or application names for two different applications are different, if the IDs are the same, the Installer is likely to become confused and you will encounter problems with installation, repair and uninstall.

It has been a while, but it is time to finish this series off. All of us have had to install Windows at some point. Most companies have stuck with XP, so we have had lots of practice getting it installed. I have installed XP on all kinds of different computers, and frankly I decided that I was sick of it. I determined that if I had to enter our XP serial number in one more time I might just switch my users to Linux. Luckily I found a solution that literally installs Windows for me.

Command Console with File and Directory Name Completion

There are some tips in Linux commands that can be useful also for Juice users in the Windows CMD environment.
For example one of my favorites is the file and directory name completion. The explanation is easy, in Unix shell, you can type the first letters and press the TAB key and it will completed with the first file/folder.

Deleting Temporary Files and Folders

You can manually delete temporary files and folders from the following locations:

[C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp]

[C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files]

You can ignore the above method since there is a smart way to do it. Just execute the following script and you are done.

To avoid UAC prompts for applications on launch, there exists a manifest file which contains key information on the privileges. Many times, these manifest files are present along with the executable in the same directory. For example: Altair.exe will have a manifest file called Altair.exe.manifest in the same directory. There can also be cases where the manifest is embedded in the exe itself. In this case, identifying the launch condition for this exe involves a lot of research.
