Windows Updates Downloader

There are several different ways to update Windows computers. Most people use Windows Updates. That doesn't work well in a corporate environment, especially if you need to make sure that the computers get updated. Another useful way to update your computers is to use Altiris Patch Management. As another article in Altiris Juice stated, that DS contains a file called ATools.ini, which is installed in the Deployment Server folder, which can be edited in Notepad to be modified.

Scripted OS Install - Part 8: Scripted OS Install in DS

Today I was updating our Windows XP scripted install. I was making sure that the updates that came out from Microsoft were integrated in. I also had to make a few updates to make sure that my programs installed correctly after Windows was done installing. Everything went according to plan. I was able to update our scripted install in no time.

Upgrading DS 6.8 to 6.9

This morning I was refining an image I have been working on in my test environment. I noticed that my AClient silent install file needed to be udpated. Then it dawned on me that I needed to update my Deployment Solution from 6.8 to 6.9. I have read some good things about 6.9, so I decided that I would go ahead and upgrade my Deployment Solution. This update is a pretty simple process. It is always nice to have a reference though. If you think it is about time to get your Deployment Solution up-to-date, take a gander at this article.

Scripted OS Install - Part 7: Installing Software

It has been a while, but it is time to finish this series off. All of us have had to install Windows at some point. Most companies have stuck with XP, so we have had lots of practice getting it installed. I have installed XP on all kinds of different computers, and frankly I decided that I was sick of it. I determined that if I had to enter our XP serial number in one more time I might just switch my users to Linux. Luckily I found a solution that literally installs Windows for me.
