SVSDriveSwitch Version 2
They say necessity is the mother of invention. That explains it. I have a laptop that has a partitioned drive and way back when I got it, I installed SVS to the 30gig system drive without really thinking about installing it to the 80gig partition. Now several months -- and about 15 layers -- later I've gotten to the point where I want to move the FSLRDR directory from my C: drive to my E: drive because I'm running out of space.
There are several Juice articles that explain how to do this manually but let's be honest; moving all the layers manually is a pain. Being the lazy person I am, if that were my only option, I'd just keep letting layers take up space on my smaller drive until I was forced to act.
SVSDriveSwitch Version 1 was a batch file that would export out all your layers, change the regkey for the redirect area and then import everything back in. However, it wasn't that smart of an app and required you to edit it or you'd have everything switched over to the default location (E:\fslrdr) instead of where you wanted it. If you had no valid F drive you'd lose everything.
Version 2 was rewritten from the ground up in C# and features a few added benefits but is just as easy to use.
Set up and Use
- SVSDriveSwitch Requires .NET 3.5
- Copy SVSDriveSwitch anywhere, doesn't matter where it's run from.
- The command is: SVSDriveSwitch "myNewPath" [/d]elete
- /d will delete the old redirect area once everything is moved.
- Unlike version 1, this version exports all the VSAs to the new redirect area so make sure you have room.
- Because it changes regkeys, UAC is required on Vista so non-admin accounts can use the app.
- This last part is very important; you need to restart your system before you can use your moved layers! The driver needs to reload with the changes that were made and if you don't you'll get 1040 errors because SVS can't find the layers at the old location.
New Features
- SVSDriveSwitch will check to see if you've entered a valid drive and path.
- SVSDriveSwith will let you delete the old Redirect area with the /d switch.
Notes
- This process can take quite a while depending on the number of layers you have in SVS and their size. It's probably best to run it over a lunch break or overnight because Exporting and Importing can be processor intensive and slow down the system.
- SVSDriveSwitch will notify you that you need to restart but won't invoke a restart itself, remember to do so before using any SVS app.
