Asset Management, Part 2 of 4 - Deploying Assets to Employees

To review: Altiris has a top level "reporting" Notification Server (NS) that has Asset and Contract Management Solution installed. It manages assets at this level.
Altiris also has a client facing NS that installs agents, manages machines and forwards inventory to the reporting NS.
Deploying Asset from Altris
- Go to https://server/Altiris/Console/
- On the navigation bar at the top click on Ariba - HD and Select Asset Management. We created a tab called Ariba HD for all Helpdesk staff to and placed only the things they would need access to in that tab.
- Under Asset Search Enter the Serial Number into the Serial Number field. Press Find.
- Altris should generate a window like the one below.
- Right Click on the row, select CMDB Functions => Assignment Functions => Asset Owner.
- The resource selector will load. Make sure the rows per page is set to All. Scroll down the list and select the user in which the asset will be deployed.
- Press Done.
- Press OK on the menu below.
- Once again on the asset search results Right Click on the row, select CMDB Functions => Set Asset Status => Active.
- You have now assigned the asset to the user.

releasing to a Department and custom Status
When our Asset Management Team releases an asset we release it to a Department/Team, not an individual. Also, we decided to add in another Asset Status called "Config" which we assign to the asset so we know it is being configured before sending out. (This can be done within 6.5 under View > Configuration > Solution Settings > CMDB Solution > CMDB Global Settings.)
Once it is on the network we have it auto change to Active and the User is populated by the "Assign Computer's Ownership to be the Primary User" (in 6.5, under View > Configuration > Solution Settings > CMDB Solution).
