Technet subscribers can download Vista SP1 through technet (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/bb...), non-subscribers can get the service pack through Windows Update.

BEWARE!
Beware! When you apply this service pack it takes over an hour to apply in most cases. I have applied it to 3 powerful machines and none of them have taken less than a hour. There are several speed fixes in this package, several annoyance fixes. If you have GPMC loaded, this service pack will UNLOAD it!
This is also a BETA version, so apply at your own risk!
Through Windows UPdate
On my Vista box, Dell Latitude D830 in under an hour, longest part of the install and update was the download. No problems iwth the Vista SP1. I like the fact that I am now seeing 4 GiGS of RAM on my laptop.

Is it really using 4GBs?
I downloaded and installed Vista SP1 and it took roughly 50 minutes.
I looked at the memory information and noticed that it recognizes the 4GB's of memory in the system information page but in the Task manager is only sees 3GB?
Does anyone see this or am I the only one?
I am running Dell Dimension 8400 Desktop...
Worth Installing
I am using SP1 at home on two machines and the biggest improvement is the data transfer from copying files has improved. Not sure why they even released Vista with that huge problem.
Yes it deletes or diables your hacked Active Directory and Microsoft has not released the new tools yet. The tools on Vista do not really work that well anyway as you cannot see disabled accounts and the exchange tools always give errors when creating a mailbox but it still create them.
I have tried to use SVS to make an install from an XP box but when I try it on Vista I get a run failed error. It might be because I rolled in the exchange tools though.
SP1 didn't wreck my admin
SP1 didn't wreck my admin tools at all. I'm not sure about the Exchange tools as I don't use them. The first install I performed did have some copy/paste annoyances. Another user in my dept had the same issues. I rebuilt my laptop due to some other non-related problems. After reinstalling SP1, I've had no more copy/paste issues and no other problems have come up so far. My shut down speeds have increased a bit but the startup seems slower. Did they change something with the way Vista delayed running some services/programs for faster startups?
