We are pleased to announce the release of Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 into the beta program. We invite each of you to register for the product download. We hope that you will take this opportunity to experience the new features in this release of Ghost Solution Suite.
Here's a list of the new features in this release:
- WinPE Pre-OS support in Console
- Hardware Independent Image Deployment
- Hot Image Creation via Console or Ghost32/64 for desktop operating systems
- Support for VMDK and V2i files
- Return code management in Command Execution tasks
- Client file retrieval from Console
- Configurable deployment task containing AI deployment, File Transfer and Command Execution
- Secure Decommission Task
- Volume Cloning
- Recovery Partition Tool (Stand alone Virtual Partition)
- Native stand alone Linux Tools (Ghost, Gdisk etc)
- 64bit Tools (Ghost, Gdisk etc)
- SUM Content IDE (to edit application setting definitions)
To register for the beta cycle, please login to the Altiris Beta Portal and from the Profile tab select beta product registration. Product support questions may be submitted via the Tools menu. You are welcome to discuss the product in the Symantec forums here.

Ghost Solution Suite
Does anyone know where this product is headed? I'm a little surprised to see it on the Altiris Beta site since it ??isn't?? an Altiris product. I guess it could be a potential replacement for Deployment Console though. Any thoughts?

Ghost Solution Suite
Altiris now has product responsibility for Ghost Solution Suite. Ghost Dev and PM report up the Altiris BU. This is why customers can expect to see GSS making increasing use of Altiris processes/resources, such as the Altiris Beta site.
On the DS replacements question ... we refer to the core imaging technology in GSS as Ghost Imaging Foundation (GIF). GIF can be used in conjunction with DS 6.8 SP2 today. Future versions of DS will take greater advantage of the innovation in GIF. We'll levarage Ghost technology to make DS a better imaging and deployment solution. DS and GSS will continue to be offered separately.
