Denver User Group Meeting Information

Denver User Group Meeting Information

The last Denver User Group meeting was held on May 21, 2008 at Great-West Life. There were over 30 people in attendance including Rob Zedaker and Shawn Turnbow from Symantec.

Jason Filler did an informative presentation on the SVS implementation at Platte River Power Authority. They currently use SVS to manage about 83 applications in an environment with roughly 250 nodes including 50 servers. Jason recommended utilizing the Juice website for research before and during the project for helpful timesaving tips. See the attached slides and the document with useful SVS links for more information.

Shawn Turnbow gave an interesting presentation of Workflow while Bryan Lollich of SI International provided examples of how they use it. As Bryan stated, "Workflow is a software development application environment" and businesses can use it to do anything they can imagine. Below are just a few things that can be done with Workflow:

  • Create processes with Altiris components (tasks, reports, assets, incidents, etc.)
  • Generate components that integrate with all major databases
  • Generate components for working with Web services (ex. Salesforce.com)
  • Generate and send notifications and escalations via email, IM, and phone
  • MS Word components to create dynamic Work docs and merges
  • MS excel components to work with data in Excel spreadsheets
  • Adobe .pdf components to create dynamic .pdf documents
  • Transform and map data from one system to another
  • Store and retrieve documents with the document management components
  • Generate components to read and write delimited files
  • Send and retrieve files via FTP
  • Build individual web forms or entire web sites
  • Get critical performance metrics for each business process
  • Send data to executive dashboards
  • Monitor critical process metrics

The slides for Shawn’s presentation are also attached. Anyone interested in an evaluation of Workflow can contact Rob Zedaker or Matt Meservey at Symantec.

Thanks to Andy Nicholson of Symantec, Juice Points were given away to 3 lucky attendees in a drawing. The winners were:

  • 100 Juice points - Gydis Leonavicius
  • 75 Juice points - Cody Wright
  • 50 Juice points - Dan Rogers

Thanks to Chase Nimmer for setting up the meeting and look for information regarding the next Denver User Group meeting in August. Hope to see you there!
