Lost pcAnywhere Contact

Lost pcAnywhere Contact

Anyone have any ideas about why I might have lost contact using pcAnywhere with my remote computer? The pcAnywhere icon with check mark is visible on the remote computer. pcAnywhere on the remote computer says it is waitibg for a contact. The remote computer has been rebooted. The remote computer router has been rebooted. The remote computer can call up pages on the internet. The LAN associated with the remote computer is accessible from afar as determined via a webcam on that LAN. What should I ask my friend who lives near the remote computer to check for?

Check the firewall

Make sure the firewall is not on. If you need it, make sure you open the right ports for PCAnywhere.

Check this page for the right ports:

Firewall

If your friend has a firewall, he should grant access to pcAnywhere through an exception list. Also, he should check his router and open up ports to allow outside connections in. If opening up any ports does not work, you need to disable the firewall on the router but there is a high risk. You shouldn't disable it if you want a protected network.
