Dell D830 Endless PXE Boot
Submitted by rharveyva on 27 August, 2008 - 07:53.
I am new to Altiris so please excuse me. I am trying to build a Dell D830 Laptop from a generic image. The laptop boots on PXE and can connect to the DS. However it sits at the /# prompt then reboots back to PXE. I do not see the computer in the DS console. The DS is suppose to make the laptop hold for a job.
Any ideas?

RE: Dell D830 Endless PXE Boot
Give us more information about your env.
What is the DS Version?
What Preboot are you using? From what you describe Linux seems to be the one.
Does the PXE boot show any errors? it could be the PXE boot does not have a driver for your NIC. To check this do a ls /mnt/ds at the /#. if you do not see anything i will point to a driver issue.

Sounds like Linux Automation
Most likely you are using Linux automation. When trying to deploy your image on the D830 try using WinPE. If priot to # shell prompt you see install failed it means that the Linux agent never connected to the Deployment Server so your job could start and it exits after the timer runs out and reboots, while the same job sits on it it keeps trying the same job, hence the infinate loop. Could be quite a few things. Mainly make sure you have all the Linux drivers selected in the automation as a first step of troubleshooting. Linux, WinPE and DOS should all work fine out of the box for the D830. I have quite a few of them.
Hope that helps you,
