PXE+PE+Imaging without Pre-boot environment?

We are trying to PXE boot to a PE environment to image systems... sounds simple...
We are able to PXE Boot to PE, the systems report to the Deployment server.. but when it comes to imaging DS seems to want to force the system to boot back to a pre-boot environment.. If we have a system that is up in PE, has checked into DS, why can't we just drag the PC onto the image job and start right then?
I can't seem to do any imaging outside of a pre-boot environment.
If we must use a preboot environment, is there a way to get it loaded with PE off a PXE boot... we tried with the installer but it fails during extraction...
Thoughts.. help... please... :)

As far as i know, when a client reports to DS for the first time, set up initial deploy to pull the image, to drag an image job to a machine, the agent needs to be installed on the client. Meaning that this client already had an image on.

When you create a capture image job the Create Disk Image dialog has a field that says "Do not boot to production" check this and I think you will get what you need.
