moving from Novell zenworks
Submitted by audifreakje on 10 July, 2008 - 06:55.
I have a customer who is seriously considering on moving away from Novell zenworks to an Altiris CMDB suite.
The thing is, they have about 150 packages created with the NOvell zenworks tool (Nal or Nap is it?) and they asked what it would take to make them compatible with the Altiris suite.
for us, this is quite new, so I would like some advice before I go to meet them ...

Not compatible
The zenwork Nal applications are not compatibel. The only thing you can do is repackage all apps.
There is a way to capture the zen ready apps one by one inside SVS layers. It is some work, but works out great.

Not sure if you are still working on this...
but you can import zen applications into WISE then compile them as an MSI. At least ones up to Zen4 (unsure if they changed anything after that).
I wouldn't recommend it though. Zen renames all source files to be 1.fil 2.fil, etc if they used snapshot to capture them. Also depending on how thorough their packaging people were, alot of junk can be captured with zen's snapshot. It doesn't make for a very clean MSI to just import them.
We are in the process of converting over 600 zen apps to wise and deploying them with NS. We are recapturing them all from scratch to make sure the msi's are as clean as possible.
