Trouble imaging Compaq DL580 G5
Good morning all, I've come across quite a stumper of a problem. When using the Linux preboot automation I am unable to get either a Compaq DL580 G5 or a DL360 G5 to connect to the network. I am able to image with DOS but not Linux.
Here is what I have:
DS 6.8 SP2 - Linux 2.6.18.8
Compaq DL580 G5 using the Broadcom NeteXtreme II NIC - Supported in Linux looking at nic_drivers.ini.
I have compiled the latest drivers for the card - bnx2 1.7.1c and 1.7.1d with the same results as the Altiris provided driver.
The Linux kernel will load but fail on "configuring eth0" through eth4. When the # prompt comes up, looking at dmesg it says that eth0 is connected 100/half. Well it won't work that way and I need to be able to force it 100/full. The switch port is configured 100/full and I have not tried auto/auto. Modprobe lists the correct bnx2.ko files loaded.
I have injected ethtool into the disk at /sbin and am able to run it. It returns speed and duplex unknown.
Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh

You already gave the answer
You already gave the answer yourselve. Because of the multinics you have to set the properties on the linux kernel and the switch to auto/auto. That will do the trick.
On a good configured network this is also the best case. Keep things auto/auto.
Second you have to remind that you do not connect different nics together when using the hp deploy software.
This problem is a known issue when installing VMWare ESX on these servers.
