Help with Office patches
Submitted by John Atkins on 16 April, 2008 - 08:59.
When I deliver MS Office patches with Patch Management I can not keep them from being visible when they install on the client. I have them set to be hidden in the package and I use the Altiris recommended command line. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you be more specific?
Different Office patches work different ways. Some are straight command line based, some are done through a batch file. It's possible you may be seeing the dos window flash up when the batch file runs.
If you could provide a couple of more details that would really help:
1. What version of Patch Management are you running?
2. Specifically which Office patches are you having this problem with?
More info
What we get is the notification from Altiris that new software is about to install. It looks like the "notify user" window, but I haven't found this option in the package for a patch. I believe it only shows up when I send a patch for MS Office that is using the command-line option of "Altiris Recommended" option, but I'm not sure. Since I am sending more than one patch at a time I'm not sure how to tell which on is causing it. One thing that I know for sure is that it doesn't always happen. It just seems to happen on a month that there are MS Office patches.
I am running Patch Management 6.2.3644 which is the latest.
An example of a patch with the Altiris recommended option is MS08-009. Here again I'm not sure it is one of the ones causing it.
I appreciate the help and I am sorry for being so vague, but I just have found many consistencies.
sounds like a patch agent config setting is off
See if this helps:
Open up Altiris Console 6.5
Choose View > Solutions > Patch Management
Expand Configuration > Windows > Software Update Agent Configuration
If you have cloned the defaults and edited them, choose your cloned copy, otherwise choose the default policy named "Default Software Update Agent Configuration Policy"
Click on the tab "Notification"
The first option on the screen "Notify user" controls the prompt that you are describing. Turn this off and your prompt should be resolved the next time the computer gets its configuration.
You were right!
That looks exactly like what I have been getting. I have patches going out tonight, so we'll see if unchecking it takes care of the problem.
Thanks so much for your help.
