Since its release last June of 2007, the iPhone has become a powerful yet simple Smartphone device for all types of users.

I being one of them thought it would be interesting to see what it would be like to run common NS tasks via the Safari browser included with the iPhone.

I created a .NET web application that queries an Altiris database. It is tailored made to work with an iPhone. As of now it only displays inventory information.

If you own an iPhone feel free to point your safari browser to: http://72.8.127.107 to see the prototype. (Note: Viewing this web page using any other browser will end up looking bad).

I'm looking for any feedback or ideas to add to this concept. What types of features would be interesting to access from an iPhone?

Just tried it out - very cool. Would be very useful for a tech in remote sites, etc.

This is certainly something that we've been thinking about for awhile. Especially if a customized Helpdesk console were available. It'd be a great way to get the company to upgrade my regular on call phone to an iphone.

I just tested it out on my PPC6700 with WM6. It doesn't look as clean as the images you provided, but it still is very usable even in IE, I'm impressed with it. Being able to view the information like that on a webpage, especially on a handheld unit would be awesome.

Good work. Looked fine browsing with WM5 in IE. What I really need to find (or create myself) is a decent way to look at helpdesk on the small screen. Our entire support department has WM6 PDA phones with data plans, and the ability to access our helpdesk stuff would be killer.

If anyone's seen a good helpdesk skin, hollar, but I look forward to seeing where this NS skin goes for use myself. :)

Wow Shane...that is fantastic. The only issue I see is with the lack of adoption by the business community. The iPhone has a ways to go before mass adoption. But if the iPhone were to gain market share in the business sector, this could be a very valuable tool.

This will make them 'mobile admins'. Interesting features can be...
- Roll out patches
- Distributing softwares
- Address software requests
And that with 3-4 selections and/or clicks.

Fantastic!

I must say, this really is a great first attempt! We recently migrated from Remedy 6 to Altiris Helpdesk and have also rolled out Asset Management. We also happen to be a Mac shop, or at least more than half the community are mac users including the entire Help Desk staff. If this could be made to simply view worker tickets and maybe add comments to them it would be fantastic! I'm thinking a basic user login page and then a view modified to see tickets and then a ticket is selected and comments are there...I know, throw a lot of details in and it seems like I'm asking for the world! Believe me, if I could write it I would! Excellent job in any case!
