Managing a User Group Area on the Juice

Managing a User Group Area on the Juice

Hopefully this document will give you everything you need to successfully manage your User Group's Juice content.

The Group Page

Our plan is for you to keep your group page up to date and then submit (or leverage submissions from others) to post group-related news to the page.

There are two parts to every group page. The top or 'mission' section and the bottom or 'news and announcements' section.

The top section doesn't move from the top and is where you can post long-term information (like contact info) by clicking the "edit" tab at the top of your group page.

The bottom portion is dynamic and will probably be comprised of information you and other members submit about events, group news, and activities.

Posting News and Events

A couple of things about News and Events:

These content types can be tagged (using Audience checkboxes) to show up just on your group page or on other (more public) pages. It's recommended that when you post an event, you tick the "public" checkbox so the event is available to all Juice users and shows up in the site-wide events calendar. More exposure means more attendance.

Events

Group administrators are the only ones who can add events (Create content > Event) to the official Events Calendar. These events show up on the group page but also show up on other Juice pages to help you get the word out to users who may not be a member of your group.

Group Bytes

We've created a new content type called "Group Bytes" (Create content > Group Bytes) that you (or other group members) can use to post information (news, announcements, whatever) to your group page.

Discussions

Discussions are a good way to get your group engaged in a topic specific to your group or region. Anyone can post an topic and anyone else can chime in. You can make discussions public or private (to your group).

Polls

Polls are a cool way to get your users to vote on a subject. Get more information about setting up polls here. Like everything else, polls can be public or private.

Approving New Members (Subscribers)

In an effort to keep bad influences out of the group areas, we've decided to ask group administrators to approve requests for membership.

Before approving new members, please make sure the user has filled out the "Company Name", "Altiris Products in Use", and "Altiris Products You Know Best" fields on their user profile page.

You can approve membership by logging in to your group and clicking on the "subscribers" link in the right column navigation.

The page that opens allows you to accept or deny requests for membership and to give (or remove) administrative rights to your group page.

E-mailing Group Members

Don't give just anyone administrative rights, though. One of the cool things that comes with this new system is the ability for administrators to e-mail subscribed members of the group.

Administrators can send these e-mails by clicking the E-mail tab at the top of the group home page. Please use this feature sparingly.
