Firefox 3.0 RC1 Virtual Software Packages (US, NL, DE)
Testing cutting-edge applications doesn't involve the risk it used to. With SVS you can install an app, like this release candidate of the next version of Firefox, as a layer that can peacefully co-exist with your other apps. You can hammer on the new release, see what it has to offer, and when you're done you can remove the layer and your machine will be clean.
Please read the Firefox 3.0 RC 1 release notes here.
Firefox 3 has a slew of enhancements and tweaks that improve security and usability even further. For a complete list of Firefox 3.0 features, see the Product Requirements Document (a work in progress).
Layer Details
Because this is pre-release software intended for testing purposes only, this layer has been configured with no layer excludes and it's been configured to ignore SVS Agent global excludes. That means everything it does -- including changes to your Firefox user profile(s) -- will stay inside the Firefox 3.0 RC1 virtual layer. Unless, of course, your profile is in a data layer. If you keep for Firefox profile(s) in a data layer, you should deactivate that data layer when testing pre-release versions of Firefox.
Check the SVS Wiki entry for Firefox-specific installation and configuration info.

Firefox RC 1 test
I did a quick test of this new Firefox release , deactivating and coming back on the Firefox 2 ( not virtualizated ) , I see all internet sessions disconnected. I have a question , what is teh reason for this sessions losts , maybe firefox cookies cleared?
Thanks
Paolo
Re: Firefox RC 1 test
You're referring to authenticated sessions with Web sites? So you had to log back in, whereas normally you don't?
Did you go to those sites from with Firefox 3? I don't know enough about how http authentication works to speculate authoritatively. But here's a SWAG: The cookies were updated while Firefox 3 was running. When you went back to Firefox 2, the Web pages found the older versions of the cookies in your base, judged them invalid and prompted you to authenticate fresh.

yes, checking again the behaviour was exactly as you explained. If I open with Firefox 3 RC1 a web page already authenticated with the previous Firefox version, on the next time that I open the same web page , it will ask to logon again.
Thanks

Firefox update...
I installed Firefox 3 rc1 on my computer just to test it out. It completely replaced my Firefox install. I suggest using this layer. It will allow you to test Firefox 3 (which I have really liked) while maintaining your current install.
For this test, I have
For this test, I have installed Firefox 3 in a separate folder, in this way I left the existing Firefox installation.
Firefox RC Installation Folders
I installed each of these to a unique folder, with a unique shortcut. So you could have all three of these layers at once, plus your regular Firefox. :)
In fact, I did have them all on my laptop recently, to do some localization testing. Then I found this extension, which is an awesome way to switch between Firefox languages quickly, not matter which language you originally downloaded: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/133...

Multilingual Firefox layer?
If you don't think people will mind the increased size (roughly 24 MB), we've figured out how to do a single, multi-lingual Firefox layer. It has the language packs and spell check dictionaries pre-installed for the following languages:
Chinese Simplified
Chinese Traditional
Danish
Dutch
English (Australian)
English (British)
English (South African)
English (US)
Finnish
French
German
Hungarian
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Norwegian
Polish
Portuguese (Portugal)
Russian
Spanish (Argentina)

Firefox RC 2
Has this been updated or will it be updated for the recent release of RC 2, which is more stable than RC 1?
