A growing tradition and a perpetual favorite at ManageFusion is the Industry Experts’ panel. This year’s line-up at the Vegas conference did not disappoint.

The theme for the ManageFusion day-two keynote was integration and acquisition.

Greg Butterfield, Symantec group president, and Enrique Salem, Symantec COO, took the stage to kick things off. Enrique had been at RSA earlier in the week and wanted to talk about how security and systems management together are the answer for protecting information today.

I had a great opportunity yesterday to attend the ManageFusion Las Vegas Customer Advisory Board meeting. This meeting includes IT executives from about 15 of Symantec’s endpoint management (Altiris) enterprise customers as well as a handful of Symantec executives.

Within the last few months, two of the most popular Altiris suites have received quite a bit of recognition for technical excellence and vision, market presence, and the ability to provide tangible benefit to the customer. Here’s a quick summary:

Ten years ago, Altiris burst onto the systems management stage with a couple dozen employees and a Windows OS management product that helped automate deployment and data and settings migration. At the time we had some unique technology but faced stiff competition from the systems management incumbents.

Hardware-independent imaging (HII) is a strangely popular subject with our customers these days but it doesn't seem to get much attention outside of the IT folks in the trenches. Why is it becoming an expected and necessary tool in the box?
